How to get to the Hotel from the Barajas International Airport: Distance: 13 Km. Transport: TAXI: 20-35 minutes, approx. 18/21 Euros. AUTOBUS: 25 minutes, 2,5 Euros. Bus service from Plaza de Colon to Barajas International Airport and vice versa (every 12 minutes from 4:45 am to 10 pm and every 30 minutes from 10 pm to 1:17 am. From Plaza Colon take the underground (line 4) from Colon to Arguelles, the closest station to the Hotel (one way ticket: 1,10 Euros) or a taxi (approx. 6 Euros). UNDERGROUND: (approx. 40 minutes; one way ticket 1,10 Euros, special 10 ticket-fare 5,20 Euros, valid on buses too). Line 8 from Barajas to Mar de Cristal, then change and take line 4 to Arguelles. Price ticket 1,10 euros. Another option is to take line 8 to Nuevos Ministerios then change and take line 10 to Plaza de Espana. Luxury Limousine transport: booking required. Approximate cost: 55 Euros.

Madrid de los Austrias

It is the most ancient district of the city and includes the most emblematic palaces and monuments: the Royal Palace, the Royal Theatre, the Town Hall and Plaza Mayor. It is situated 500 metres away from the Hotel.

Puerta del Sol

This door was, in 15th century, the main entrance to Madrid. Today Puerta del Sol and the square, Plaza del Sol (redesigned between 1859 and 1868), are the very centre of the city. The monumental clock and the statue of the bear and the strawberry tree (el oso y el madrono) are the symbols of Madrid.

Museo del Prado

Perhaps the most beautiful neoclassic building of all Madrid. Built in 1785, it was intended to be a museum of natural history. Having been used as an arsenal during the wars against Napoleon, it became Madrid's Museum of art in 1819. Certainly it hosts one of the most important collections of paintings worldwide, with special rooms for masters like Goya, Velazquez, El Greco, Zurbaran, Murillo and Tiziano, as well as for representants of the Dutch school.

Museo Nacional Centro d Arte Reina Sofia

This modern building, featuring interesting expositions since 1993, completes the "Arts Triangle" of the Prado museum.

Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza

This museum, inaugurated in 1993, hosts one of the most important private art collections.

Plaza de Oriente

This square, east of the Royal Palace, was designed at the time of Joseph Bonaparte, who took over the government after the victory of his brother Napoleon against Spain. The French wanted to build a wide boulevard in the style of the Champs Elysees in Paris, but the project was never completed.

Puerta de Alcala

The Door of Alcala is a beautiful triumphal arch made by Francisco Sabatini in 1778, after the arrival in Madrid of King Charles III.

Plaza y fuente de Las Cibeles

This beautiful fountain, built on a project by Ventura Rodriguez, is considered as one of the most representative monuments of Madrid.
